Checkmate Puzzle 47 Solution
checkmate puzzle 47
1. Qc2+ Kf4 2. Qd3 g3+ 3. Kh3 ~ 4. Qf3#
This puzzle on mate in 4 looks easy but it may be not... First the White queen delivers check from c2 and the Black king has the only move on f4. The second White move is the most important. The White queen moves on d3 to keep the Black king immovable and with the White pawn mate threat g3#. To postpone the mate, Black has to check by moving his pawn on g3 -- the White king moves on h3. Then any move of Black and the White queen mates from f3.

1. Nb5 (Ne8) c3 2. Nc7#
This is very interesting endgame position for mate in 2. Please do have a look at this position closely. All Black pieces, including the king, are blocked and cannot move except the passed pawn on c4. If the White knight takes the passed pawn, it will be a draw by stalemate -- see. To mate in 2, the White knight moves on b5 or e8 and lets the passed pawn go. On the second move, the White knight mates from c7.
