      Solution to Puzzle 27
puzzle 27
1. Qxc7 f6 [1... Qxc7?? 2. Re8+ Rxe8 3. Rxe8#]
Just take it... The correct answer is 1. Qxc7!, and a Black rook has been taken. Black cannot play 1... Qxc7 because he will be checkmated in the following way: 2. Re8+ Rxe8 3. Rxe8#. This combination is based on the back-rank mate threat.

      Solution to Puzzle 28
puzzle 28
1. Qe4 g6 (f5) 2. Qxa8
Again the mate threat combination... By moving 1. Qe4, White creates the mate threat (2. Qxh7#) and at the same time attacks the Black rook on a8. Black has to prevent the checkmate (1... g6 (f5)) and has to gift his rook.
