Solution to Puzzle 67

1. Rh6 gh 2. g7# [1... B~ 2. Rxh7#]
By moving 1. Rh6, White places Black in zugzwang with the next 2 variations. If the g7-pawn takes the rook on h6, it will clear g7 for the White mating pawn. If the bishop moves away, it will leave h7 undefended for the White rook to mate. Back to top
Solution to Puzzle 68

1. Na5+ ba 2. Qb3+ Nb6 3. Qxf7
White sacrifices the knight moving it on a5 with check and fork on the Black queen - Black has to take the knight. By moving the knight on a5, White cleared b3 and open the Black king for the queen fork from b3 to take the rook on f7.
