      Solution to Puzzle 87
puzzle 87 for beginners
1. Qxg7+ Kxg7 2. c4+ Kg6 3. cxd5
How to win the Black knight in the above position? Which chess tactics should be used? Let's see on it closely... First, White sacrifices his queen by taking the Black knight on g7 with check - the king has to take the queen on g7. The aim of the sacrifice was to place the Black king on g7. Now, the White pawn moves on c4 with direct attack on the Black queen and with the discovered check on the king. The Black king has to step aside, and the pawn takes the Black queen to return the sacrificed material back. Having conducted this chess combination, White has won a knight.

1. e5+ Kxe5 2. Nc4+ Kd5 3. Nxd6 Kxd6
[1. e5+ Qxe5 2. Ng4+ Kf5 3. Nxe5 Kxe5]
How to win the Black queen in this position? Or, better to say, how to catch the queen? Let's see... First, White sacrifices the right pawn by moving it on e5 with check - Black has to accept the sacrifice and take the White pawn on e5. This can be done by the king or queen. If the king takes the pawn (see variation 1), the White knight will move on c4 to deliver check and fork on the queen to take it. If the queen takes the pawn (see variation 2), the White knight will move on g4 with the same motif. As result of this chess combination, White has won the queen.
