      Solution to Puzzle 105

In the above position, the Black king is blocked by his friendly bishop on c8 and by the White knight on c6, which is defended by the White bishop. To mate in one, White moves his queen on e7 - the queen is supported by the White rook. This is a typical checkmate delivered by the supported queen attacking the opponent king "face to face" when the king is blocked by 2 side pieces behind him.

In the above position, the Black king is located at a corner of the chess board. The king is blocked by his 2 friendly pieces on a7 and b7. The White queen is undefended but it is attacking b7 and pinning the Black queen on a7. To mate in one, White moves his knight on c7 - the Black queen may not take the attacking knight because of pin. Think why moving the White knight on b6 is absolutely wrong..
