To win the rook in this position, White moves his queen on e8 to deliver check and attack the Black rook on a4. The Black king has to move on h7, and the queen takes the rook on the second move. This attack is called the fork. A fork in chess is a tactic when a single piece attacks two or more pieces of the opponent simultaneously.       Solution to Puzzle 126
chess puzzle 126 for kids
1. Qd4+ Qg7 2. Qxa7
To win the rook in this position, White moves his queen on d4 to deliver check and attack the Black rook on a7. Black has to defend the king by moving his queen on g7, and the White queen takes the rook on the second move. This is a queen fork. A fork can be delivered by any piece (by queen, rook, knight, bishop, and even by king and pawn) because any piece can attack at least 2 pieces of the opponent simultaneously. White has won the rook using fork; the fork was delivered by the queen.
