      Solution to Puzzle 131
chess puzzle 131 for kids
1. Qd3+ Kc8 2. Qxh7 Qd8
The above puzzle is not difficult, but it is interesting... Right now the White knight may not take the Black rook on h7 because the knight is being pinned against its queen (1. Nxh7?? Qxf3). The correct solution for this puzzle is shown above (1. Qd3+ Kc8 2. Qxh7 Qd8) - to win the rook, White delivers the queen fork from d3. And this is the best line for White in this position (to start from 1. Qd3+). There is also the second solution for White to win the rook h7 (1. Qd1+ Kc7 2. Qd7+ Kb8 3. Nxh7 Qd8), but the first is stronger for White. In the second solution, White delivers 2 checks to unpin its queen and then the knight takes the rook h7. Note for you: The pin is a situation when a chess piece attacks the opponent piece and the latter cannot move without exposing a more valuable, friendly piece behind.

      Solution to Puzzle 132
chess puzzle 132 for kids
1. Qd5+ Ke8 2. Qxa8
This is an easy chess puzzle to find the solution how to win a Black rook - White should deliver the queen fork... To win the Black rook on a8, the White queen moves on d5 with fork. The Black king must retreat, and the White queen takes the Black rook on a8 on the second move. Note for you: A fork is when a single chess piece makes two or more direct attacks at the same time. When 2 opponent pieces are being attacked, it is also called a double attack.
