This mate can happen in the opening phase of a chess game. The puzzle above shows a famous position, namely the pre-mate position of the Legal Mate (this mate is also called the Legal Trap). A few moves ago, the Black bishop was on g4; the White knight on f3, the White queen on d1, and the White bishop on c4. The White f3-knight have moved on e5 and the Black bishop took the queen on d1. Then, the White bishop took the f7-pawn with check and the Black king moved on e7. Now, the left White knight moves on d5 and mates in one. Learn this opening position and the Legal Mate.

1. Bb5#
The opening phase of this chess game is sharp. The Black f-3 pawn has already taken a White knight and is attacking the White bishop on e2. The bishop can take the pawn but there is much much better move for the White bishop... The White e2-bishop moves on b5 - with double check and mate in one. Pay attention to the White rook that was behind the bishop... A beautiful bishop move with double check and powerful mating attack.
