      Solution to Puzzle 87
chess puzzle 87 for kids
1. Qd7#
This is a typical checkmate pattern to learn. The Black king is blocked by 2 friendly pawns on b6 and c5. The White rook attacks d5, d6, d7 - securing the d7 square for the White queen. To deliver mate in one, the White queen moves on d7. In the final position, the queen attacked all squares around the mated king except b6 and c5 which are blocked by the Black pawns.

      Solution to Puzzle 88

1. Nd7#
This is another checkmate pattern to learn. The Black king is totally blocked by his friendly pieces around. The Black queen and the White queen are located on the same diagonal with the White knight between them. To deliver mate in one, the White knight moves on d7 (but not on c6) - the Black queen may not take the mating knight on d7 because the queen turns out to be pinned by the White one.
