Puzzle 70 Solution Hints
White has to loose the knight or bishop. See 1... de or 1... d6+. Because of this, White must choose which piece to save. Hint 1: Save the bishop and move it away... Hint 2: Move again the bishop to block the Black pawn on h7... Hint 3: Checkmate with the King and bishop. Hint 4: If the Black King tries to leave the corner, take all the pawns and checkmate with knight and bishop...

About the Author
Leonid Kubbel (1891-1942) was a great Russian chess composer and the author of more than 1500 chess endgame studies. Leonid Kubbel was a chemical engineer by profession. He had 2 brothers, Arvid and Evgeny, who were chess players. Leonid Kubbel died of starvation in 1942 during the Nazi siege of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) during the World War II. Leonid Kubbel stands at the same line of the famous Russian composers as A. Troitzky, M. Platov, V. Platov.
